Every name is part of Sõrve’s story. Together they reflect the history, the hard work, and the community spirit that keeps Sõrve going from generation to generation.

For generations, Sõrve has been shaped by the passion, dedication, and generosity of countless volunteers, leaders, organisers, and community members.

EESKUJULIKUD ELANIKUD - Sõrve Outstanding Camper

This award is presented to one A Group and one B Group camper who truly stand out for their positive attitude, effort, and the way they support those around them. These campers lead by example — whether it’s getting involved, helping others, or bringing great energy to camp — and help make Sõrve a welcoming and fun place for everyone.
EESKUJULIKUD JUHID - Sõrve Outstanding Leadership

This award is presented to two Juhid who have shown outstanding commitment, leadership, and a dedication to creating a great camp experience, while supporting their campers, their groups, and their fellow juhid. The recipients are voted for by their peers in the Juhtkond (leadership team), recognising those who consistently go above and beyond to make Sõrve a positive and successful experience for everyone.
This is now known as the Kai Rahnel Award. Kai Rahnel was a teacher at the Estonian Saturday School in the 1980s, the very organisation from which Sõrve evolved. She served as President and as a member of the Sõrve Komitee for several years, edited 50 Fabulous Years of Sõrve, and was the creative mind behind many of the early Suur Mäng activities. Her daughters and grandchildren continue the family’s Sõrve tradition today.

REIN SIMMUL EDENDUSAUHIND ABIJUHILE - Sõrve Leadership Encouragement Award to an Abijuht

This award is presented to one Assistant Leader (Abijuht) and is voted for by their peers. Sponsored by Dr Rein Simmul, it recognises an abijuht who demonstrates outstanding leadership potential, strong dedication to their role, and a commitment to ongoing involvement in Sõrve and future camp activities.
Dr Rein Simmul has had a remarkable and lasting impact on Sõrve. After arriving in Australia in 1949, Rein became involved in Sõrve first as an Elenik, then as a Juht, before serving as Laagrijuht from 1973 for fourteen years. He later became Laagrivanem, working alongside Madis Alvre and then Peter Maasepp, and also served multiple terms on the Sõrve Komitee. Upon his retirement in 2007, Rein established this award at Sõrve 2008 to encourage and support the next generation of leaders, helping ensure Sõrve’s spirit and leadership continues to thrive.

EESTI HARIDUSMINISTERI POOLT "EESTI KEEL JA EESTI MEEL" AWARD - the
"Estonian language and Estonian spirit" award.

This award is presented to one Elanik who demonstrates enthusiasm and engagement with Estonian culture throughout Sõrve, both in daily camp life and in specific sessions such as Eesti keel, käsitöö, muusika, and rahvatants. The recipient has also shown a commitment to promoting Estonian culture among their peers and the wider community during camp, and demonstrates the potential to continue exploring and engaging with Estonian culture independently throughout the year.
