Kivid aka Stones
Equipment Needed –
“Stones” You can pretty much use anything that is easy to carry and run with. You can use weighted items like pool rings, preferably something that won’t roll or blow away.
Two hula hoops one placed on each end of the playing field.
A noticeable divider of two sides, lines if you are playing on a gym or soccer field or you could use pylons or ropes. Also use pylons for boundaries.
Pinys or jerseys to distinguish teams.
Rules –
Divide your group into two evenly dispersed teams. Each team has an even amount of “stones” placed in the hula hoops. These hula hoops are placed at the far end of each of the teams playing fields. Make sure you distinguish the playing field and decide if there are out of bounds or not.
The objective of the game is for one team to have all of the stones in their hula hoop. When this happens the game is over.
As I said there are two sides. Each team is trying to protect the stones they have as well as steal the other side’s stones. If a player crosses over on to the other teams side and they get tagged they have to sit down where they get tagged. That person is freed when a member on their team can make it to them. They then have to link arms/hold hands/hold on to jersey and can cross back to their side. When a player saves a team mate they get a free walk back. You can decide if they have to be connected or not. An alternate rule is if they are not connected they can be tagged again.
If a person from team A makes it all the way to team B’s hula hoop they are safe inside the hula hoop. It’s up to you if there is a time limit to how long you can be in the hula hoop. I the person from team A leaves the hula hoop and makes it passed the divider line to their side without being tagged that stone goes into teams A’s hula hoop. If the person from team A gets tagged while trying to retrieve a stone before they reach their side they have to give the stone back and sit down where they are tagged.
There is no throwing stones across to your side or to other players. The person who retrieved it has to make it all the way back with the stone in hand. However if you were playing with younger children or wanted to make the game easier you could alter the rule to being able to hand off the ring to someone on your team.
If you are playing in a field and you have boundaries or even in a gym and someone runs out of bounds they automatically are “tagged” and have to go sit down. Again this rule could be optional depending on how difficult you want to make the game.
